New poetry by Eoin Dunford

A POEM FOR BRIAN

I am listening to music.
As I write these lines.
You were magic
Whilst trapped in the mendicant.

A POEM OF GRATITUDE

I have so many things going for me -- thank God.
I live with my parents on a hilltop -- close to God.
Sometimes, when there isn't a lift available,
I walk the total of seven miles down the hill into town and back up (that dastardly hill).
This hill, which is the foothill of a mountain, Fruithill, is a beast to ascend, it would completely knock the stuffing out of myself anyway.
So I am -- on an ongoing basis -- grateful to be at home and when I do not have to undertake this terrible walk.

A POEM WRITTEN IN LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST

Laudate omnes gentes.
O Christe Domine Jesu.
These are the names of two religious songs I have.
My Latin is non-existent but I think they mean
Praise, all people,
Lord Jesus Christ.
How I love the Lord Jesus.
He was gentle, loving, courageous, and kind.

A PRAYER TO MY MOTHER MARY

Our Lady, can we cut through
All of the nonsense and
(In time and in eternity)
Instigate something sweet.

A PRAYER TO ST. GODFREY

How I love you,
Godfrey/Thomas À Kempis.
I've been praying the Rosary to you
And I entrust my soul to your care.

A PRAYER TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

Jesus. Yeshua. A name which is above every name.
I have been praying the Rosary to him
And I hope he can cover all of my intentions
And make each and every one of my dreams come true.

A SMALL SLICE OF HEAVEN

A small slice of heaven
Is all that I can find:
O for the permanent days when heaven
Will be a place on earth.

AG TRIALL AR PHORT LÁIRGE

Ag triall ar Phort Láirge means journeying to Port Láirge (Waterford).
I will be heading there with my dad in the car in a little while now.
I am going to imbibe or soak up the trip as well as enjoying our conversation
And it is a great thing to be able to spend some quality time together on the road.

AIN'T NO LONGER ASKING FOR CHANGE

Ain't no longer asking for change.
I'm not gonna change anyway.
Push for change.
Life begins now.

CAMPFIRES

I haven't, in my life, attended too many campfires.
They are an exciting romantic kind of thing
Which attract me.
It would be fun to be with friends or loved ones on the edge of a campsite regaling each other around a glimmering campfire.

DON'T LET GO

Don't let go of your dreams
And I won't let go of my Eoin neither
As I humbly bring forth the future in love:
The thunder of justice.

EVERY RIVER

Every river I tried to cross (in my youth) prevented me
(Many rivers to cross especially when I was younger).
There were always obstacles and hurdles in the way
Of me achieving the goals which I wished to attain.

EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY

Everyone will be happy
In the forthcoming dispensation.
It'll be great to be all together
Under the aegis of the Lord God Almighty.

EVERYTHING MUST GO

Well, not everything,
Thank God! But the old negative beliefs
And thought patterns or ways of thinking
Will only bring out (of my personality) rotten fruit.

EVERYTHING WORKS OUT IN THE END

Everything works out in the end.
Ill turns into good and into all manner of positivity
When we keep (humbly) putting one foot in front of the other
And continue to trust in the benevolence of the Lord.

EVERYWHERE

God is everywhere.
This is something I learned when I was very small.
And this
Is a very very comforting thought.

EXTEMPORE PRAYER TO THE VIRGIN

Our Lady,
We come before You now as our Mother
And we ask You for intercession
And we ask You to shower us with graces. Amen.

EYE TO EYE

I don't always see eye to eye with people in charge.
I resent them lecturing me etc.
I choose to forgive, though, because I believe this is the way forward
And that such an approach generates yet more peace and also... love.

More poetry cometh soon.
